Contributing Writer for Car Rental Company
Milou Van Roon commissioned me to write 2-3 articles weekly for a car rental company on an 8-week contract. Each assignment brought me new destinations to research and virtually explore, from Hilo, Hawaii to Asheville, North Carolina. I put together posts that advised readers on what to do in each city and tips on driving there, and as a travel lover this project was an absolute dream. I enjoy doing somewhat off-the-beaten-path activities, so it was an exciting challenge to find some of the more unexpected things to do in some of the world’s top destinations.
Contributing Writer, Proofreader
I got to know the ins and outs of HOW Design Magazine. I acted not only as a contributing writer for articles about the design of Burning Man and what it’s like working as part of Target’s design team, but I also read every single word of every page as the proofreader for the entire publication. This was particularly thrilling work that involved doing something I love—interviewing—and gave me the chance to be part of a fast-paced editorial team.
I enthusiastically pursued Tiny Atlas Quarterly at the right time—I wanted to work with an indie travel magazine in the Bay, and they needed an associate editor. I came in to streamline work for their 2014 issue, Water, to edit and proofread the features, research products included in the issue, and quality control to ensure that when the magazine hit newsstands it was absolute perfection.
