Bookish Gift Ideas: Holiday Presents for Book Lovers
If you are a present-giving person around the holiday time and you have a reader on your Nice List, then you’re probably wondering what to get them (other than books, of course). A quick glance online and you’ll find heaps of book-related items to make reading life better or to simply flaunt the love of all things fiction. Below are some items you definitely shouldn’t overlook.
Let me also preface this with: you will very likely find something perfect if you head into your local independent bookstore! They often stock fun extras, and it’s always a bonus to shop direct from your neighborhood. If you’re a romance book lover, definitely check out romance-specific stores, either in person or online, for great merch options (there’s a great Reddit thread here and a map here—most, if not all, are US-based, just FYI).
ps no affiliate links here, just things I love and wholeheartedly recommend. :)
I have not one but two of these Sittin’ Pretty Book Kitty Sweatshirts from Chandler Ainsley, one of my fave Booktubers. The sweatshirt is super soft and warm, and I get compliments on it all the time. I have the green, and it’s perfect for cooler weather.
A Kindle holder and remote has really changed my reading-KU-in-bed game. My set was a gift, but I believe they’re the ones featured in this Yahoo! post.
On the flip side, if I’m reading a physical book in bed (or on a plane), I prefer a warm, yellow-y light. A book light is perfect for these situations! It clips onto the book and offers just the right amount of light so you can wind down at the end of the day but still read clearly. The one I own isn’t available anymore, but there are tons of options if you search for “warm book reading light.” Look for one that has an amber colored light.
I sewed myself a book sleeve (which fits a book and a Kindle together) and love it! If you’re not crafty, you can find a ton of handmade options on Etsy.
I got this Enemies to Lovers Club bookmark and I love it, and the maker, Cosmic Paper Studio, has all kinds of bookish, fun stuff.
I donated it during my move, but a mug warmer is such a nice way to keep a hot drink hot during a reading session. The Wirecutter has a good roundup of 4 solid options here.
Don’t sleep on items that set the reading mood. Slippers, a robe, a fuzzy blanket (or, my personal fave, a heated blanket), or a candle…they may seem like generic gifts at first glance, but they’ll get regular use from bookworms.
Give the gift of reading with a donation in your recipient’s honor to the World Literacy Foundation.
