The books I read in August
Hello and happy September! I had a strangely slow reading month, but thank the stars for novellas. I actually did start a lot of books that I have every intention of continuing, I just found that they weren’t quite the right vibe for what I needed at the moment. Mood reader problems 😩 But short 100-200 page reads really pulled through for me this month. I’d say the only bad thing about them are that they ended; truly, I just wanted to keep reading. Here are two that I really enjoyed!
Storm Warning by Nellie Wilson
This one popped up in my TikTok FYP shortly after watching Twisters in theaters. It’s a storm chaser romance, and has the same kind of rivals-to-lovers goodness as the film did. Told in dual timelines and dual POV, it immediately hooked me. The chemistry is done so well, and I love that it’s a STEM setting.
Thrum by Meg Smitherman
Meg’s stuff pops up in my social media (okay, TikTok) feed from time to time, and the premise for this one instantly piqued my interest. A woman wakes from stasis in outer space to find her crew dead, and she makes contact with a mysterious alien being who presents as human. Things get…weird. It gave me the kind of eerie, sexy vibes that Mexican Gothic did.
